History of The Cheese Cellar

June 2009

The three original owners of H&B Foods complete a Management Buy-out from The Novel Group Ltd. Jonnie Archer, Nick Martin and Simon Yorke resume control of the business and re-establish our Stewarts Road site as Head Office. The original Cheese Cellar premises in Ellerslie Square become a stock holding site.     

July 2007

With a staff of 68 and an annual turnover of £23 million, The Cheese Cellar is bought by the Novel Group and join H&B Food.

2001/ 02

Turnover reaches £20 million following the acquisition of World Cheese.

2000

Turnover reaches £13 million 

1996

The company expands further, merging with The Rustic Cheese & Egg Company. We move to larger premises at Ellerslie Square in Clapham.

1991

Employing 15 staff with 3 vans on the road, the company has a turnover of £1.5 million. In line with this, we move to a larger site at Wier Road, Wimbledon.

We have a great relationship with a top Maître du Fromage in Lyon. We are the only cheese company in London to do this, and as such have the privilege to supply some of the top Michelin starred chefs in London.

1989

The company abandon the wine side of the business in order to concentrate solely on supplying fine cheeses. We expand to include retailers and contract caterers amongst their customers.

1987

Luke Fenwicke-Clennell and Justin Slawson set up The Cheese Cellar Company with the aim to supply fine cheese and wine to the restaurant industry. They set up in premises under the railway arches in Camberwell
